I read a bunch of reviews on this filter and filters in general. There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what they are supposed to do and why some cost so much more than other models. First of all… these are FILTERS… they do not reduce dissolved solid in the water, they reduce or eliminate chemical and biological contaminants. One person showed how she tested 3 glasses of water with a conductivity meter to show that this filter doesn’t do anything. They DO NOT nor are they SUPPOSED to reduce dissolved solids. If you want to drink water with zero dissolved solids, then drink distilled water… at least until you wind up in the hospital, because of it. The difference in cost is directly related to how much and what chemicals/biologics are removed from the water. Cheap ones are basically activated charcoal which gets rid of some things like chlorine and foul tasking water. More expensive ones will filter out or reduce dozens and dozens of chemicals and biologics. If you don’t know what your water contains you can contact your local water source (city, village etc.) and they can provide you a list of contaminants in your water. I typically buy those that will reduce as many contaminants as possible… 66 to 73. They cost about $10 more, but the peace of mind is worth the small additional cost.

I’ve ordered the same exact EDR3RXD1 filter from the EveryDrop by Whirlpool vendor five times. I had no issues the first four times, other than it being too expensive for the short amount of time it works. With my most recent order from March 2022, the filter didn’t work. It’s the same EDR3RXD1 from my past orders and it appears to look the same. It fit in my fridge but stopped the flow of water. I took it out and the flow started again. I put it back in and the flow stopped again. Very frustrating and a waste of money. Maybe it’s a knock off.
UPDATE 3/29/23: I changed my review because I was actually having an issue with the filter housing, not the filter. The filter housing has been changed and water flows through this filter again. I took off one star due to the high price.

Since it mostly just filters water for the ice maker, in my household the filter lasts a decent while. If you want filtered water for drinking, I think most budget conscious people would be better served by a Brita pitcher.

Does what it’s supposed to do. Not a whole lot you can say about a refrigerator filter.
Edit: I use to get them at Lowe’s as they were $10 cheaper here. Fast forward to a year later and they are only $2 cheaper so they’ve gone up.

Took me awhile but I finally found the filter that will fit the refrigerator. I have bought these a couple of times already and will continue to buy them. They fit great. Work as they should and even though they seem a little pricey, it’s worth it considering, I only have to buy them 1 or 2 times a year for a household of 2.
I will be buying another one in 6-8 months when the time comes.

The price for these is far above what my old fridge filters were (for a Samsung). It does what it’s supposed to do, just wish there were some cheaper and reliable alternatives.

Could not find other 3rd party brands that fit this refrigerator. So have to go with a more expensive filter.

Bought a new house. Refrigerator water in door was cloudy. Bought this and replaced the filter. Ran 5 gallons of water through. Water cleared a little. Within a weeks it was cloudy again. Will probably have to get a new refrigerator or stop using door water.

The water still has a faint chlorine smell. But it’s better than without the filter.

The first time I tried to change the filter on my fridge, I had a devil of a time and ended up using a thin blade screw driver to help remove the canister. Little did I know the installers had neglected to include the little black cap on the filter. Bummer! Having been better educated and getting a cap for the filter things are smooth sailing for replacing the little guy. Only wish it was at eye height instead of near the floor. One every six months is not too much to ask, so I go and just do it. Run about a gallon through the new filter until it quits sputtering and it’s ready to go. Tastes better than out of the kitchen faucet.

In reading the other reviews I wasn’t sure if there was really going to be a taste difference. I do have to say I think my water tastes more clean and refreshing, if that’s possible. I thought they were a little pricy at first, but I will definitely reorder these when it’s time.

we drink water from our refrigerator constantly..my sister has the same refrigerator and needed to replace her filter also… she bought a cheap 28.00 dollar filter and does nothing but complain the water doesn’t taste good using that filter…the filter i bought (every drop by Whirlpool) works great and the water tastes great.. it does take a few gallons of water to run through the filter for the taste to become good, but it is well worth the money ..and works great..will buy again
